#helovesmehelovesmenot, 2014.
Through construction, deconstruction and reconstruction I have taken one notion and created another. By focusing on the negative space I have removed the ability – the compulsion – to fulfill the act (the game “he loves me, he loves me not”) as there are no complete petals. I have spent much of my recent work focused on words, the use of language, and our (English) lexicon. With this piece instead of focusing on the words he-loves-me-he-loves-me-not, or the meanings of each, I highlight through the use of negative space the void between words. All sound is hung on silence. Silence, space, and void are constants in every language. I hope to explore that often what goes unsaid is just as important, if not more, than what is.
